Creative Retreat – Magnolia Baking Co

Our Annual Studio Refresh is here, just in time for us to celebrate our 1st birthday!  We can’t believe Ivory Tree Portraits is already a year old! We began this journey as an independent studio to ensure we can give you fresh, timeless yet modern portraits. So you can image how excited we are by our first studio refresh!

We did a creative retreat to Magnolia Market in Waco, TX and were inspired by deep textures, natural materials and items with a history. We found white washed brick, creamy cement, and reclaimed barn wood. All these things help tell a family’s story in a natural and authentic way.

Reclaimed Barn Wood

Turns out translating exterior elements into a studio isn’t as easy as it sounds, so we partnered with local artists to bring the vision alive in our studio! We worked with Manayunk Timber to source reclaimed barn wood installed on the vertical. The wood is what is call they first cut so we were able to keep all the texture and all the history. Then we partnered with Black Ridge to create a customized macramé piece… and it’s everything. We’ve been able to create a balanced approach to creating backgrounds that are current but not trendy. The key is to ensure your images are timeless with the focus on your family.

We’ve transitioned to a clean, crisp, creamy ivory background that has really allowed the focus to be on you. We always have our backlit look which looks amazing when a family is wearing neutrals. We’ve installed a brick wall that has been white washed. The fun thing is that it can look slightly urban when dressed in edgier items like a leather jacket, or, it can lean towards a totally classic home when dressed in a flowy, floral dress. Finally we have a creamy cement wall inspired by the stucco we found in Waco, TX. It pairs perfectly with both our brick and our wood elements.
If you were counting, yes that’s over six looks. Here’s the deal, you won’t have time for them all during a session, but you will have time for several! Here’s a little trick, all of the background have a white element to them. Cool, so what does that mean? It means that as you select your wall art, they will all look amazing together and balance each other when hung as a collection. Just one more way we are trying to make it easier for you!

Communion Mini Sessions

Our mini sessions will all take place on our wood wall but we’ll change the styling to match the season. So this Spring & Summer enjoy the macramé!  Our mini sessions are scheduled for once a month with a specific theme, but don’t let that stop you from scheduling the time that’s perfect for your family!

We’re totally digging how they turned out, be sure to follow us on Instagram for all the fun!

In addition to our annual studio backdrop refresh. We’re excited to have released the full 2019 Calendar of sessions. Take a look at our mini sessions and Limited Edition Sessions. For all of our planners, feel free to book as far out as you’d like to ensure you get the day, time and photographer you’d like! Book Now!

About the Author

Lara Aman Mattey

Founder I Owner I Ivory Tree

Lara is the coolest person alive, according to her husband, Nick, & two little ladies, Caitie (10) & Lorelai (9). But she thinks her time is limited on that statement as they continue to grow older. Lara comes from a large family, with whom she is still very close with and you’ll often see shared through the blog and on social media. She went to Penn State (We Are…) where she met Nick, who’s always in a baseball hat (still, yes as a fully functioning adult). Ivory Tree's very own photographer, Marcy shot her newborn photography sessions & Lara was hooked! Lara is not a photographer, super weird, we know. But lives for the experience, creative direction, and meeting all the cool folks who come through the Ivory Tree Portraits studio!

Follow along as she shares studio antics, personal antidotes, & fun stuff going on in the community.
