My kids grandparents are a huge part of their life! Here’s the deal, I’m writing this blog as I’m sitting in the hospital while my dad is in heart surgery. If you follow me, at all, you know how close I am to both of my parents. How my dad, in particular, is always popping into the studio, even though they live 3 hours away.

He’s totally fine, but he did have a heart attack and three stents put in. And it was a gut punch and a wakeup call, all at the same time. I just scheduled an extended family session (me, the one who owns the studio), since we haven’t had one in years.

WHY ALZHEIMER’S

If you follow us, you know we pick a few charities to support throughout the year. This year we selected Alzheimer’s, as this disease has literally touched every member of the studio in some fashion.

As of 2024, an estimated 6.9 million Americans, or 10.9% of people over 65, have Alzheimer’s disease. The number of people with Alzheimer’s doubles every five years after age 65. And is projected to nearly triple to 14 million people by 2060. Source. It’s an absolutely heart-breaking disease.

I’m dedicating this event to my cousin Ginny and her incredible heart and care taking of my Uncle Bill. I see the strength it takes to support someone through Alzheimer’s.

ABOUT OUR CHARITY EVENT

Our charity event is designed as quick sessions, 10-min, with grandparents. Of course ,those with Alzheimer’s are totally invited but that’s not really the intent. The intent is to get amazing images with grandparents while they still look, feel and act themselves. As you know, the Ivory Tree signature look is about capturing the connection.

This event allows you to get a few images with the grandparents. It doesn’t matter who all comes, but please note this is a charity event not a full session or an extended family session. So while we have time for a few of everyone together, we won’t have time for all the combos. But we can totally accommodate that in a family or extended family session).

WHY ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION

We have selected the Alzheimer’s Association to donate to for this event. The Alzheimer’s Association leads the way to end Alzheimer’s and all other dementia — by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early detection, and maximizing quality care and support.

Time is short and I encourage everyone to get the picture before you think you need the picture. You will want to have pictures of them when they are looking their best and really connecting with you and your kids.
